Travertine has become a generic term to refer to natural stone. However, travertine is a natural stone from Turkey and differs significantly from Burgundy stone, aside from both being natural stones. At Le Comptoir des Pierres, as a French manufacturer based in Burgundy, we exclusively craft pool copings from natural Burgundy limestone.
To learn more about travertine or reconstituted limestone, we have written a dedicated article. You can also explore our page dedicated to Burgundy limestone for further information.
A travertine pool coping project often allows for a lower budget compared to Burgundy stone. However, we believe Burgundy natural stone is significantly more suitable due to its density and much lower porosity and void count.
Pool copings endure heavy exposure to pool water, especially if salt-treated. Travertine's voids are typically filled with grout, which becomes the weakest part of the structure, particularly for copings. Grout lines quickly darken and degrade.
We recommend exploring our Burgundy limestone pool copings and contacting us directly for more information.
