ROCHERONS LIMESTONE - BURGUNDY

The ROCHERONS limestone is one of the notable stones from Burgundy.

Its reputation and prominence are mainly due to its resistance and the appearance of this stone.

  • This hard stone (2600 kg / m3) is one of the most resistant, especially to frost (240 freeze/thaw cycles - referred to as severe frost resistance) and is also suitable for wet areas (kitchen and bathroom).
  • It withstands all uses, even intensive use and road construction.

Also, there is no category of products that cannot be made from Rocherons limestone.

Rocherons limestone has similar aspects to marble with a light beige background and pink veining. Its grain is particularly fine, tight. with shells.

THE COLORS OF THE LIMESTONE

ROCHERONS GOLDEN

The Rocherons Golden limestone is the noblest part of the Rocherons quarry.

The Rocherons Golden limestone is full of nuances and density, making it one of the hardest stones in Burgundy. Its reflections range from golden to pinkish beige, sometimes even reaching a violet hue. These variations in tones resemble the noble stones of Chassagne or Corton.

This hard stone will enhance your interior with a honed finish or your exteriors with a flamed finish (anti-slip).

ROCHERONS BLENDED

This fine-grained Rocherons Blended limestone resembles marble due to its density. The presence of shells and rosy veins will create a lively pattern in your stone flooring. The stone's base color can be described as beige-gray with wine-like stains and glass-like features.

This stone is shaped with a honed or flamed finish, and upon request, it can be provided with a Vieux Beaune (bush-hammered) or Vieux Beaune fine (fine bush-hammered) finish.

Please note for all our photos: the angle of the shot or the lighting can result in a varied color appearance. Feel free to visit our showrooms for a more accurate view.

USES OF THIS STONE

All our range can be made with Rocherons limestone: kitchen, bathroom, coping stones, buildings, courtyards and gardens, paving, cobblestones, funerary... There are no usage limitations as it is suitable for outdoor use (terraces, paths, coping stones…). Regardless of your region, this stone will be perfect for outdoor use in a flamed or bush hammered finish.

We particularly recommend Rocherons Golden limestone for kitchen, bathroom, or funerary projects, and Rocherons Blended limestone for building or courtyard and garden projects (fountains, benches, etc.).

FINISHED OF THIS STONE

Rocherons limestone is unique. As it is a hard stone, we cannot achieve the same finishes as with other so-called semi-hard stones. Only 3 finishes are possible :

  • Honed : the surface of the stone is smooth/soft, the edges are straight.
  • Flammed : With a large blowtorch followed by a jet of water, we create a thermal shock that causes the superficial grains to burst, which textures the surface of the stone to make it non-slip, the edges remain straight
  • Bush-hammered : bush-hammering is a traditional tool, with this 'bush-hammer' hammer, the stone is struck in such a way as to create hollows and bumps. This is the most non-slip finish, and is especially recommended for public establishments outdoors.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Originating from the Côte basin (extraction site: Villers-la-Faye), the quarry is located just behind our workshop. Rocherons stone is a hard stone (density 2600kg/m³) with a porosity of 1%.

It is a very fine-grained limestone with some fossils and rosy veins. It contains quartz and iron (rust spots). This is a micritic limestone from the Jurassic period, Bathonian stage, approximately 160 million years old. As a reminder, the natural stones of Burgundy were formed through sedimentation; it was the ocean floor 160 million years ago. As previously mentioned, it has a freeze-thaw resistance of 240 freeze-thaw cycles (severe frost resistance).
