"GPI Pierre de Bourgogne"
As an active member of the Association Pierre de Bourgogne, we are defending the creation and implementation of a geographical indication protecting industrial and artisanal products (The GPI) in order to secure buyers of counterfeits and the usurpation of the Burgundy stone name.
This geographical indication will in the coming months ensure the traceability of products in Burgundy Limestone protect the know-how of all the actors in the sector whose production is carried out on the area defined as Burgundy (4 departments: 21, 71, 58 and 89).
These companies will be certified and checked annually by a controlling body and will carry an approval number. Le Comptoir des Pierres was the first company to be certified in Burgundy. This certification process for quarries and stone-cutting workshops is still ongoing.
The entire Pierre de Bourgogne raw material will be tracked, a customer can in case of doubt initiate an investigation in order to check the traceability of the finished product starting with the extraction of the stone block in the quarry.
In the case of a fraud, it will be the DGCCRF (fraud repression authority in France) who will handle the affair because this will the equivalent of a counterfeit.
Tomorrow, this GI logo will be affixed to all products manufactured by 100% Burgundian companies, certified and controlled, and will be the only guarantee that the product you purchase complies with the precise specifications of the geographical indication Pierre de Bourgogne.
