Lay a kitchen worktop in limestone
We manufacture sinks and kitchen worktops in several stones to your dimensions (with cutting for hob, tap holes …). We focus on production so we don’t go to your place to measure the dimensions. To help you send us a sketch for pricing, discover the dedicated page on custom-made kitchen worktop.
Preparing for the Installation of a Stone Worktop
It is always easier, even mandatory to be 2 people to lay worktops, moreover in natural stone. To give an idea, a linear meter 60 cm wide weighs 40 kg. The density, depending on the stone, varies from 2100 to 2600 kg per m3.
Be sure to turn off the water and disconnect kitchen room on the electrical panel. Check the flatness of the furniture with a mason ruler and a bubble level. Adjust the height of the furniture’ feet if necessary.
Installation of a Stone Kitchen Countertop
In general, always carry out a laying without gluing to check the correct assembly of the kitchen worktop parts. If you have to lay a sink and worktops, always start with the sink.
Depending on the positioning of your furniture, you can strengthen the support of the worktops by fixing support brackets on the wall. After laying check the flatness of the worktops.
Position on the jambs or on the support white glue cords as Bostik MSP 108. This will make it possible to set the plans. Adjust and then seal using an anti-migration silicone seal cartridge (Otto S70). For the cleanest rendering, put 2 strips of masking adhesives to materialize the width of the seal. The seal must be as thin as possible to be discreet but at least 2 to 3 millimeters to play its sealing role.
Note : after the “test” laying, do not remove the worktop, lift it simply to position the glue.
If you have a credenza or backsplashes, use white glue to fix them to the wall, then do the grouting with the same methodology (masking adhesive tape and silicone cartridge). The lower part between the credenza and the worktops must imperatively be joined.
You shouldn’t need to cut out the worktops ; in case of error in terms of dimensions use a diamond disc machine (angle grinder) to adjust your worktops. No fear if you have to rework (slightly) the worktops ; natural limestone is easy to cut (with the right tools).
There are no strips for edges for worktops in stone because they are massive materials. You have precised beforehand the number of sides seen where we will do the same finish as on the top of the worktop. The edges will be worked according to your wishes: chamfer, 1/4 round, bull nose…
To help you have the right products, we offer a fixing kit, including a cartridge of glue – special for limestone and a seal cartridge of the color corresponding to the stone you have selected.
