Our selection of stones for water features - Kitchen and Bath
Burgundy gave us 83 different stones, we selected 7 of them which, according to our criteria, are adapted to water features. What we mean by water feature corresponds to the kitchen and the bathroom, where our stones will be strongly in contact with the water repeatedly and daily. It is therefore necessary that the stones have specific characteristics in terms of density and porosity.
Thus, not all stones will be suitable. A simple visual analysis is not enough to know if a stone is adequate to make a shower tray for example. It is necessary to rely on geological characteristics and laboratory tests. A stone that may seem porous because of these small cavities, could be in fact much less porous than other stones : this is the case for example of Golden Yellow Lanvignes limestone.
In addition to these 8 Burgundian limestones, which we will present to you, we have selected the Blue Stone (Belgian origin) which allows to propose you a dark color, almost black. These dark colors do not exist in all shades of Burgundy stone. However, we do not recommend it if you do not have a softener in a geographical area where the water is calcareous. Indeed you could see the white traces of limestone on your sink or washbasin. It is the same for all dark stones: Dark Granite from Zimbabwe, Fine Black Stone from Belgium...
All our creations for the kitchen and the bath are water-repellent protected at our workshop. This protective treatment aims to saturate the stone in order to limit the risk of soap or toothpaste stains for example. You can re-apply this treatment by yourself if necessary.
"Stone and finish" combination - Designed by Le Comptoir des Pierres
We offer you as standard combinations of stone and finish. So you will find in our sink models for example, a proposal in Honed Charmot Clear and not in Aged Charmot.
We consider, after multiple tests, that the limestone of Charmot is sublimated in this honed finish that is softened. Conversely, a stone such as Golden Yellow Lanvignes will be presented in aged finish.
On specific request, we can work other stones and finishes for this type of product. We will be able to tell you if it is suitable, or in any case what the advantages and disadvantages will be.
You will find below a presentation of our 9 stones and finishes with a dedicated page with examples of achievements. Feel free to click on these links.
