What technique for my engraving ?
We engrave on Burgundy stones for our engraved plaques (inaugural plaques, commemorative plaques, coats of arms...), house numbers, as well as funeral plaques, memorial stones, and tombstones.
Two techniques coexist for engraving on natural stone. The first technique is the recessed engraving method, commonly referred to as V-cut engraving because the interior of the engraving takes the shape of the letter V. This technique is done either by hand using a chisel and gouge by a skilled engraver or with digital tools (CNC with diamond cutter). The second method involves sand projection through a stencil to create the letters, known as sandblasting.
At Le Comptoir des Pierres, we exclusively use V-shaped engravings for longevity (over 30 years). Sandblasting, which is much shallower, does not provide optimal visibility of characters over time. This surface treatment tends to fade after a few years
All letter sizes are possible. You can either provide us with specific dimensions (in terms of height), or when placing the order, we will send you a layout with our recommendation regarding proportions, especially for engraved plaques.
What colors and stones for my engraving ?
A) What colors ?
Our V-shaped engravings are of high quality and can be left unfilled. However, for enhanced visibility, we offer 6 painted colors on the stone as well as gold leaf filling. It's possible to use 2 tones, for example, using gold leaf for the name and first name on a tombstone, and leaving the dates unfilled.
Gold leaf, despite being more expensive, offers better durability over time and extends the intervals between rechampings (a process of color restoration by scraping off remaining paint and reapplying a new layer—typically every 20 years for outdoor engravings).

B) What stones ?
What price for my engraving ?
The cost is 12 euros including tax (engraving + painting). Gold leaf filling incurs an additional cost of 20 euros including tax compared to other painted colors. Of course, for text engraving, we assess each request individually to offer you the best possible rate.
Please note : the engraving cost is included in the price of the house number, which is 80 euros including tax (with an additional 60 euros including tax for gold leaf). For engraved plaques, the cost of the stone plaque (depending on size and type of stone chosen) will be included in the quote.
