Our wall copings (also known as wall caps, coping stones, wall coverings, parapets, etc.) can come in different shapes. The three main types are: flat, curved, or sloped (with one or two slopes or pitches).
The role of the wall coping or wall cap is twofold: to ensure the waterproofing of the stone wall and to enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor space (or rooftop terrace in the case of parapet walls).
The drip edge or drip groove is a crucial feature if the wall is plastered. It consists of one or two grooves on the underside, usually 1 cm from the edge, which help divert water away from the wall, preventing black stains from mold, moss, or lichens.
There are many types of wall caps available: materials (mainly concrete or reconstituted stone from major DIY stores, natural stone, aluminum…), dimensions (thickness from 3 to 15 cm at Comptoir des Pierres - with custom orders going up to 20 cm), and models (flat, sloped with one or two slopes, curved…), but the goal remains the same: waterproofing and aesthetics.
Flat copings account for 90% of our sales primarily because they are the most economical. Curved or sloped copings require molding, which involves additional labor time compared to standard flat wall caps.
Water drainage is more effective with curved or sloped copings (especially two slopes), which is the main reason our clients choose this type. Curved copings provide a more refined and elegant appearance (in our opinion) than sloped copings. Wineries or owners of historic estates often prefer this model. Flat copings have a simpler look. The choice depends on your property's style and your personal taste.
We are available to discuss the type of coping that best suits your project.
