Why a fountain in your garden?
The fountain as a landscaping element plays an aesthetic but also functional role. With a fountain that flows constantly, the sound of the water is soothing, the simple sight also of the water brings serenity. The fountain also fulfills a role of access to water for plants or garden.
The fountain makes it possible to sublimate a park or garden as a central or secondary element (as part of a wall fountain). It is quite possible to install a fountain on a terrace, choosing the lightest models (Gevrey wall fountain model or Merceuil fountain for example)
The materials used for the fountains are numerous: cast iron, galvanized steel, wood, reconstituted stone and of course natural limestone for an incomparable cachet.
Wall fountain, central fountain or basin?
Wall fountain
The wall fountain is ideal for bringing a refined touch to gardens or outdoors of small area. The wall fountain is also used as a water point for watering plants or vegetable gardens. Its installation is simple because it only requires a connection to the water circuit (this is called an open circuit). The concrete slab is not necessary most of the time (to be finetune according to the weight of the fountain), a level and stable support will be enough (compacted background).
The wall fountain is usually composed of a credenza with the hole to fix the tap (or fountain spout) and a tray (or basin) to collect water. Iron bars are often present on the tray for a more traditional look (old support of water jars). Only two points of glue will be enough to fix the credenza and the tray together (example : Bostik MSP 108 glue sealant)
Different forms of credenzas are possible : rounded credenza, rectangular credenza, credenza with molding. The bowls can also be more or less deep, and more or less worked (example model of Saint-Germain fountain)
Central fountain
The central fountain model and its size should be proportionate to the area and layout of your garden. The central fountain usually operates in a closed circuit. You fill the fountain once and a pump will run the water circuit. This system is ecological because there is no water loss. However, it will be necessary to fill with water (due to water evaporation) a few times a season and also clean the pump. The occasional addition of chlorine can help keep water clear.
In addition, the arrival of electric power nearby is necessary. Indeed, it is the electricity that will make it possible to send the water into the central column. Devices with solar panels can be considered. The pumps are often operable via a switch, which makes it possible to have a fountain in motion only when desired. The pump can be either immersed or in a formwork outside the fountain (which we recommend).
The central fountain can be a round fountain without a column with a diameter (inside and outside) that can be made to measure. In this configuration, it will be necessary to provide a reinforced concrete slab (thickness depending on the ground and the weight of the fountain : between 13 and 20 cm).
A sealing will be carried out inside the basin. Be helped by professionals to install your massive fountain (mason or landscaper ...).
Basin
The often used definition of a basin is a water point without circulation of this water (neither pump nor natural current). The disadvantages are related to static water: algae development, water that becomes cloudy.
A basin also refers to a monumental fountain with a large volume of water, this is the case of our models of Bonnieux fountain or the Montroland low wall stone basin
These fountains / basins are totally adapted to the private universe (bourgeois house - classic French house) or to the public environment (village fountain, public square, town hall square ...)
