Which thickness for my project of paving or cladding in Burgundy limestone ?

Several criteria must be taken into account to select the thickness of the paving corresponding to your projects

-Support / type of laying (adhesive, on screed, on sand or on pedestals)

-Usage (pedestrian, light vehicle or heavy vehicle)

-Dimensions of tiles or cobble stones

Adhesive fixing indoors or on the terrace / pedestrian walkway – Thickness of 1.5 or 2 cm

Burgundy limestone is made at least 1.5 cm thick; depending on the type of stone, the size of the tiles and your technical constraints, a thickness of 2 cm can be proposed. Do not worry about the choice, if you do not specify, we will propose the most suitable thickness.

Adhesive laying for a driveway – A minimum of 3 cm in fixed size format

In fixed size format (up to 20 x 20 cm), 3 cm will be necessary when laid according to local building regulations. In fixed size (up to 60 x 40 cm), 4 cm will be necessary this time.

Be careful however these recommendations are valid for light vehicles and maximum up to 10 tons. Consult us for heavy vehicles.

Cement / lime mortar on screed  – From 4 to 8 cm depending on the size of the slabs

In fixed size (up to 20 x 20 cm) : 4 cm; in fixed size (up to 60 x 40 cm): 6 cm; other larger formats : from 8 to 10 cm

Laying on sand – A minimum of 3 cm for a pedestrian walkway

Used outdoors for your driveways or house entrance, this support avoids the use of a cement base. For pedestrian use 3 cm will be enough. For a driveway with only light vehicles, 6 cm are recommended. For roads, 8 cm is a minimum.

In the same way as for adhesive laying, the maximum format of the tiles is 60 x 40 cm

Laying on pedestals for your terrace

A minimum thickness of 4 cm should be used for a laying on pads ; the tiles are not glued in the traditional way but rest only on 4 pads at the corners.

We systematically offer our wall tiles in 1.5 cm thickness; even if fixing in 2 cm thickness is possible.
