Stone protection treatment

You already possess or have just acquired a sink, a kitchen worktop, a washbasin, a shower tray, a staircase, a paving,… in natural stone ?

The first question that comes to mind is : to treat or not to treat?

It is important to know that all water/oil repellent products are not treatments that will definitely block the porosity of natural stone. These are absorption postponers.
They are imperatively breathable and permeable so that the stone naturally creates its carbonation (surface hardening) over time.
The carbonation of our Burgundy limestones can take from one to several years depending on the stone and the maintenance.
It is this natural carbonation that you observe for example on old paving stones that look shiny, like “waxed”.

Before any application, it will be useful to check whether your natural stone is already treated.

Unless additional indications, we apply a water/oil repellent treatment on our sinks, washbasins, shower trays, kitchen work tops, vanity tops, table tops,… during the manufacturing process before shipping.

Pavings, pool copings and stairs have not been treated at the workshop and will be treated by your care after laying, joints made and tiles well dry.
Our Old slabs of Burgundy with patina already have a pre-treatment of protection made in workshop during the manufacturing process.

The porosity test

To find out if your natural stone element is treated : just drop a few drops of water on the stone.
-If the drops are not absorbed within 1 to 2 minutes and the colour of the stone does not go dark, your stone is certainly already treated or is not very porous.
-If the drops are absorbed immediately or within 1-2 minutes and the colour of the stone goes darker, your stone is certainly not treated and requires the application of a water/oil repellent product.

Choosing the right protection product

Indoors :

1. Do you want to treat kitchen stone elements or natural stone baths?
Use Hydropierre. It is the ideal product in aqueous phase (solvent water) and compatible “food quality”.
Very few VOC (volatile organic compounds) emanations indoors.

2. Do you want to treat paving, cobble stones or staircase,… in stone ?
Use Hydropierre

You can add Hydrosatine (finishing wax) to reinforce the protection and give a satin finish to your natural stone elements.

Outdoors :

You want to treat paving, pool copings, staircase, fountain, pillar,… in stone?
Use Imperpierre. It is the ideal product in the solvent phase (solvent “gasoline”)
Imperpierre can be used indoors but it will be necessary to aerate for several days until complete evaporation of the solvents.
