Tombstone : what price?

The budget is an important factor in a funeral monument project. In fact, we often have no reference points in terms of the cost of a tombstone or a stele. The expenses are also often shared among several family members, some of whom may not have the same financial means.

The purpose of this page is to give you an idea of the elements that make up the cost of a funeral monument.

The components of the price of a funeral monument

A/ The chosen materials

The first element that contributes to the price of a monument is the chosen material. Regarding our range of natural stones from Burgundy, Comblanchien Clair stone will be, on average, 30% more expensive than the limestones from Châtillonnais (Lanvignes Doré-Jaune and Semond Nuancé). Similarly, an extremely rare (and distant) granite will be more expensive than a granite from the Tarn, for example.

B/ The complexity of the monument

A tombstone will have a lower price than a complete monument, which includes the stele, base, and foundation. Be aware that you don’t always have full control over the choice of monument. In fact, cemetery regulations may require a foundation slab and even dictate the material to be used (e.g., Père Lachaise in Paris).

Engraving is also a factor to consider : engraving only letters/characters will not have the same cost as adding a design, such as a theater mask, balloon, cross, etc.

C/ The installation

The installation will also impact the overall budget. The price depends on the ease of access to the plot in the cemetery, as well as the masonry work required, such as creating a false base or pouring a concrete foundation. Contact a professional to estimate this cost.
