CHARMOT LIMESTONE - BURGUNDY

Charmot limestone is the most modern and contemporary stone that we work with.

The Charmot limestone is extracted in Yonne; it is the lower stratum of the Massangis quarry.

  • It belongs to the light stones and resembles marble in color, smoothness, and medium grain.
  • It's our main stone (along with Lanvignes Antiquaire stone) for Kitchen and Bathroom elements: sink, washbasin, shower tray, countertop...

THE COLORS OF THE LIMESTONE

LIGHT CHARMOT

Light Charmot is a limestone with a creamy white background and gray sediments. The stone has a medium grain, some shells but no colored veins. The stone can be more or less sedimented depending on the block.

It is a stone that can both have a very modern appearance and enhance classical interiors. It is a so-called frost-susceptible stone which, in general, is not suitable for outdoor projects (to be studied case by case depending on the regions). It could deteriorate. Furthermore, we advise against using stones that are too light outdoors as they reflect sunlight strongly and can be dazzling.

GOLDEN CHARMOT

We also work with a more golden variant. This is Charmot limestone to which we apply a patina to give it a warmer tone. This stone is used in sinks, countertops, basins, shower trays, bathroom borders... It is not suitable for flooring or paving.

Please note for all our photos: the angle of the shot or the lighting can result in quite varied color rendering. Feel free to visit our showrooms or order samples.

USES OF THIS STONE

The entire range can be made from Charmot stone as long as the stones are not exposed to frost: kitchen, bathroom, fireplace, paving, cobblestones, decoration, table... It can even be installed in wet areas for making shower trays, wall coverings, and basins.

Charmot stone is also used to create cabochon paving with a honed finish.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Originating from the Tonnerrois basin (quarry location: Massangis in the Yonne, 30 kilometers from Tonnerre), Charmot stone is semi-hard (density 2300 kg/m³).

It is a medium-grain limestone with slight shell inclusions. This is an oolitic limestone from the Jurassic period, Bathonian stage. It is 160 million years old. As a reminder, the natural stones of Burgundy were formed by sedimentation ; it was the ocean floor 160 million years ago.
