AMPILLY LIMESTONE - BURGUNDY

Ampilly limestone is one of the 3 main stones shaped in our workshop (along with Lanvignes and Semond stones).

It can be explained by several reasons, according to us.

  • Color : The honey to very light yellow reflections with warm nuances of this stone are emblematic of the warm colors of Burgundy stones. Our clients often expect this type of hues when looking for a natural stone from Burgundy. Its background grain, more "brown," makes it an interesting color alternative to Lanvignes and Semond limestones.
  • Resistance : This stone is resistant, especially to frost (240 freeze/thaw cycles - we speak of severe frost resistance), and is also suitable for water features (kitchen and bath) in flooring or wall cladding. Also worth noting: Ampilly stone will be more resistant outdoors than Semond stone.

THE COLORS OF THE LIMESTONE

AMPILLY BLENDED

Ampilly limestone is one of the main references in Burgundy stone with light to beige/brown reflections. Ampilly Nuancé stone combines the Ampilly Tigré and Ampilly Medium stone benches. The Tigré tends towards brown with "stripes" (in other words, darker parallel veins), while the Medium is lighter and more speckled. The combination of these two benches, in our opinion, brings a good visual balance. This stone is enhanced in an antique finish.

Ampilly has been used in Charles de Gaulle Airport, at the European Community, the National Library, and in many private domains in France and Europe. It enjoys strong recognition in the United States with numerous projects completed over the past 20 years.

AMPILLY MEDIUM OR TIGER

In the quarry, there is a "stratum" (which means a level or a vein depending on geological characteristics) of stone lighter than we call Ampilly Medium. This selection allows for more homogeneity and is an interesting alternative to the Semond Light with veins stone. The Ampilly Medium limestone will be more speckled, more "lively". However, this stone is very rare and significantly more expensive. Therefore, we prioritize the Ampilly Tiger bench for a set oriented towards darker, brown tones. We can also play with these nuances with a paving in Ampilly Blended and a peripheral band to structure the set in Ampilly Tiger in the same finish.

Please note for all our photos: the angle of the shot or the brightness can give a quite varied rendering in terms of color. Do not hesitate to visit our showrooms or order samples.

USES OF THIS LIMESTONE

We use this limestone for flooring. 100% of paving finishes are possible in Ampilly : Antique, Brushed, Honed, Old Burgundy Tiles.. This limestone is also suitable for wall cladding (bathroom, facade...). We have a soft spot (or rather two!) for this stone in Antique or Old Burgundy Flagstones finish. Upon request, we can shape it into cobblestones.

Regardless of your region, this stone will be suitable for outdoor use. Whether it's a chalet in the Alps or elsewhere, there's no need to worry if you're in Belgium, the Netherlands, England...

Beyond paving, we have standardized our entire range in Ampilly Tiger Aged Finish : sink, washbasin, shower tray, pillar, coping, pool coping... The durability and beauty of this limestone make it a perfect choice for all your landscaping projects.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Originating from the Châtillonnais basin (extraction site : Ampilly-le-Sec in Côte-d'Or, 6 kilometers from Châtillon-sur-Seine), Ampilly limestone is considered semi-hard (density 2360 kg/m3).

It is a sedimentary limestone, oolithic from the Jurassic period, Bathonian stage. Its age is 160 million years. As a reminder, natural stones from Burgundy were formed through sedimentation; they were at the bottom of the ocean 160 million years ago.
