Corton limestone, along with Comblanchien stone, is one of the flagship stones originating from Burgundy.
Its color is golden beige with pink veins.
This compact and hard stone, patinates over time, to beautify itself. Corton stone is widely used for the restoration of old houses. It is a stone with few pores and easy to maintain. For our stonecutters, Corton stone is 'a work of art in itself'!
Corton stone echoes wine and especially Burgundy's Grand Crus in white or red: Corton Charlemagne, Corton Bressandes, Corton Grand Cru Les Renardes...
Due to its proximity to the Climats de Bourgogne, Corton stone is particularly popular for export (United States, Asia including Japan...).
THE COLORS OF THE LIMESTONE
CORTON
Corton limestone has a very changeable color. It ranges from beige to brown, passing through honey-colored with pink to violet veining. It's a so-called marble-like stone with warm colors. It's sometimes referred to as Corton Beige Rosé.
This limestone has been used at the Hospices de Beaune, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, at the headquarters of Crédit Agricole in Rennes... It is frequently used in the wine villages of Burgundy for window frames, dormers, sills, pillars...
Please note that the angle of the shot or the brightness can result in quite varied color rendering in all our photos. Feel free to visit our showrooms or to order samples.

USES OF THE LIMESTONE
Corton limestone is perfectly suited for all interior projects. It can also be used outdoors, but only for vertical applications (window frames, wall cladding for facades). The flooring (interior), kitchen (sink, countertop, backsplash, jambs...), and bathroom (basin, vanity top, shower tray, shelf...) ranges showcase this stone. The honed finish highlights the veins, while brushed or monastery finishes in flooring blend the overall appearance more.
One can also create a fireplace, a table, and decorative elements...
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Originating from the Côte basin (extraction site: Ladoix-Serrigny, 3 kilometers from our workshop), Corton stone is a hard stone (density 2600 kg/m³) with 1% porosity.
It is a limestone with fine grain and slightly shell-like. This is an oolitic limestone from the Jurassic period, Bathonian stage. It is 160 million years old. As a reminder, Burgundy's natural stones were formed by sedimentation; this was the ocean floor 160 million years ago.
