Opus in Natural Burgundy Limestone. We work on 2 types of opus incertum : the opus incertum – Rough and the opus incertum – Sawn

In general, opus incertum is a stone with various and irregular sizes (length, width, thickness). The opus incertum should not be confused with the Roman opus, which is a specific layout.

Opus incertum is a stone with irregular sizes (length, width, thickness). Its warm colour and thickness make it an ideal choice on the terrace, in the driveway or in the outside courtyard. These stones can also be used as wall capping.

The opus incertum – Rough is directly extracted from a stratum (or bench) of the quarry and only cut. Indeed, we do not act on the surface of the slab to keep its natural or raw side. Its warm colour and thickness make it an ideal choice for outdoor patio, driveway or courtyard. This stone native to Yonne Area is Protected Geographical Indication since June 2018 as part of the classification of limestones of Burgundy.

These limestones can also be used in wall capping stone (with the same natural finish as our coverings) or in wall construction (on this subject, do not hesitate to discover our section dedicated to walls)

Our stones are selected and sorted by us to select the most flat tiles possible ideal in paving or wall top for their visual rendering. However this raw finish is necessarily synonymous with a more pronounced irregularity than the paving and opus incertum sawn.

The opus incertum brut is sold per m2 with 3 thicknesses available 2-3 cm, 3-5 cm and 5-7 cm.

Chassagne limestone, one of the noblest stones extracted in Burgundy, is also one of the rarest. Indeed the quarry located in the town of Chassagne (also known for its Grands Crus: Chassagne-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet …) is no longer exploited.

We also have paving or wall covering in Chassagne limestone with shades from pink to purple or Chassagne Beauharnais (beige color without pink or purple veins). Chassagne limestone (espacially the Beauharnais type) contains veins of quartz, this is what makes its charm in particular These veins of quartz are much harder than stone (without any risk of breakage).

We offer a single finish that sublimates the Chassagne stone, it is the honed finish for all your interior projects. We have 2 lots of Chassagne left : Blended Chassagne and Chassagne Beauharnais.

Paving – Cobblestone in natural Burgundy limestone

The term "calade" comes from Provence and means to pave. A caladée street is one that is dressed with limestone laid vertically. This type of roadway is very common in the Gard, Vaucluse, Var, and Bouches du Rhône. An alternative to limestone is a caladée street made with pebbles.

This paving can be laid either traditionally in a dry installation (without jointing), which allows for grass growth, or with joints for a different visual effect and less maintenance.

The visible fields of our cobblestones are split, meaning they are beige-cream in color. Two sizes are available: 6-10 cm or 10-14 cm (visible part), with a height (part buried in the ground) of 12 cm (+-2 cm).

Our stones are from Yonne, Protected Geographical Indication.

Price per square meter available upon request. Feel free to visit our stone cutting showroom in Var area or directly in Burgundy.

Chevron installation. Natural Burgundy stone. Chevron tiling. Broken bond installation. Custom-made.

Our standard size is 30 x 5 cm. Other dimensions available upon request. Thickness of 1.5 or 2 cm (or more upon request). Stones: Lanvignes Golden-Yellow, Semond Nuanced, or Ampilly Nuanced (upon request: Ampilly, Charmot, Buffon…).

Our cobble stones in Burgundy limestones and our Burgundy limestone tomettes/tiles are also made to order and can be declined in several formats and thicknesses.

We produce our paving in Burgundy limestone for our customers in traditional finishes (honed, aged) and realize exclusive finishes (Monastère, Vieux Beaune, Vieilles Dalles de Bourgogne : reproduction of old slabs) for our customers. Additionally, we work with two types of opus incertum in Burgundy stone to create terraces or pathways with irregularly shaped slabs.

Custom made Burgundy limestone

We can manufacture in the same stone and finish as your flooring : your skirting, your stairs, your thresholds, your window sills, your window and doors frames, your kitchen sink, your washbasin and shower tray for the bathroom, your pool coping,… Thanks to these materials and being a manufacturer we can study and offer a large range of products.

For your full understanding: the stones of Buffon and Chassagne, although extracted in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, are not recognized under the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) "Pierre de Bourgogne" and therefore do not benefit from the designation.

Blue stone (origin Belgium) for a color contrast with Burgundy limestone paving and cobblestones.

We work with blue stone (origin Belgium) for darker tones that contrast with our Burgundy stones: cabochon paving, checkerboard paving, peripheral bands, and the Saint-Sauveur model paving. The more polished the blue stone is, the closer it gets to black. Conversely, in an aged finish, it will have a light gray/dark gray color.
