“PGI Burgundy Limestone”

Burgundy Limestone – Pierre de Bourgogne was officially granted a Geographical Indication on 29 June 2018!

The NIIP (National Institute of Intellectual Property), in charge of Geographical Indications has published the homologation in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property. Thus, it is the first Geographical Indication for limestone in France. Discover in more detail on the site of IG and that of NIIP

As an active member of the Association Pierre de Bourgogne we defended the creation and the implementation of a geographical indication to protect industrial and artisanal products in order to prevent buyers from counterfeits and the usurpation of the name Burgundy Limestone – Pierre de Bourgogne.

This Geographical Indication will in the coming months ensure the traceability of products in Burgundy Stones and protect the know-how of all the actors in the sector whose production is carried out in the area defined as Burgundy (4 departments: 21, 71 , 58 and 89).

These companies will be certified and checked annually by a controlling body and will carry an approval number.

The entire Pierre de Bourgogne raw material will be tracked, a customer can in case of doubt launch an investigation to check the traceability of the finished product starting with the extraction of the stone block in the quarry. In the case of a fraud, it will be the DGCCRF (fraud repression authority in France) which will handle the affair because this will be the equivalent of a counterfeit.

Tomorrow, the IG logo will be affixed on ALL the products manufactured by 100% Burgundian companies, certified and controlled, and will be the only guarantee that the product which you buy respects the precise specifications of the Geographical Indication Pierre de Bourgogne.

To be sure to buy real Burgundy GI stone you will need to demand its presence!
